Sisaket is one of the most important provinces located in the north-eastern region of Thailand. It is popularly known for its Khmer ruins or religious temples. Located at a distance of about 571 kilometers from Bangkok, Sisaket is bounded by Ubon Ratchathani and Kampuchea in the south.
Scholars have divergent opinions regarding the emergence of Buddhism in Thailand. Some point out that Buddhism emerged in Thailand during the time of Emperor Asoka. Other scholars opined that Buddhism came to Thailand much later. Archaeological findings and other historical sources point out that Buddhism first came to Thailand with Mon-Khmer's who settled in the country with their capital at Dvaravati in Nakon Pathom. The great Khmer ruins are today found in Sisaket. |
